‘No spouse, no children, part of the advertiser-friendly 18-34 demo. Have been interested in clothing since I was a kid, when I’d wear my grandfather’s hats and coats. I liked check trousers even then. My style now is very much rooted in what I liked when I was 10. My knowledge of clothing, such as it is, has been cobbled together from a variety of sources, both in real life and online. My grandfather had great style, and looked good whether in suit and tie or shirtsleeves and straw hat. It was all so effortless, and is still very much an inspiration.

My style is fairly eclectic, but deeply rooted in the traditional American aesthetic. I have many influences, but only wear things that are compatible with my core style. When I’ve tried to deviate too much, I’ve generally found myself unhappy with the results. After some trial and error, I have come to accept that I’m a natural-shoulder, button-down collar type of guy. In terms of clothes, I most like sportcoats, in that they’re so versatile and fun to wear. In terms of eras, the early to mid-1960s.

Wardrobe is all RTW, save for a few shirts and a few miscellaneous items I’ve had made. Nearly all of it has been bought on discount. I do have a few items handed down from my grandfather that I treasure. Style icons…my granddad, Marcello Mastroianni, John Steed from “The Avengers,” and, as an early childhood influence, Tom Baker’s Doctor Who. My WAYW photos are mostly things I find interesting or unusual. My tastes can run contrary to many on the clothing forums, so I like to think I’m helping to represent a spectrum of styles. I don’t think everything I post is successful, and like to receive feedback from others.

My core style is American, but I very much have English and Italian influences. The concept of the English eccentric is very appealing. I like the idea of wearing clothes just because I feel like wearing them, and to please no one but myself. The Italians, in turn, have a wonderful way of wearing their clothes indifferently. Both elements are very compatible with the soft-shouldered traditional American style. Other hobbies: travel, painting, good books, good food.

Tips: Be true to yourself. Be comfortable in your clothes. Remember that however nice something looks brand new, if it is good quality, it will look better once well worn and well loved.’
