’28, editor of Primer. I studied Visual Media, a combination of Video, photography, and graphic design. No children yet, but probably in the next couple of years. My friends and family have always been very supportive of Primer, which is incredibly motivating. Style is an important part of who we are. I’ve always felt the need to look my best going all the way back to when I was a young teenager. Some guys scoff at dressing well, it’s unnecessary or not important to them, they think. But why do these same guys shave? Or get haircuts? Or wear dress shoes to work? All of those same reasons apply to why a man should put some effort into how he presents himself with what he wears.

Primer was started out of my own need for a men’s magazine that concentrated on the unique set of problem’s men face after college. A man’s mid-twenties can be some of the most important years in his life, and yet no one was speaking directly to them. Maxim can be a fun read, but it’s for high school kids looking for bikini models and fart jokes. GQ and Esquire are nice, but they’re intended for guys in their early 30’s with more disposable income. I’ve been very excited about the reception of Primer as more and more young guys realize there are things men are expected to know as adults, but no one ever teaches.
The best style knowledge is gained through trial and error, figuring out what works, what doesn’t and doing this over and over. I also enjoy reading style magazines for inspiration, but I usually have to tone it down for real life. That’s why Primer is different – we focus on real style any guy can go buy at the mall for a decent price. I would describe my own style as modern prep. I love a lot of aspects of Northeast prep style, and the styles presented by J.Crew and Lands’ End Canvas. I then take that and add more modern elements, such as a bright color or a hoodie, to create a contemporary style that is also timeless.
Primer focusses on style that any man can achieve, not high NY street fashion. No man should feel uncomfortable or ‘less manly’ in anything we feature. Primer also places a heavy emphasis on learning about classic style so readers can build on that.
The trick to dressing well is dressing appropriately for where you’re going and the company you’ll be with. A guy that dresses great, but is over-dressing everyone around him is not dressed well. You have to know the appropriate level of casual or dress and build on that.’
