John F. Kennedy on Time

Time magazine has devoted a short photo essay to JFK’s take on style. His youth was spent in louche apparel: untucked shirts, ragged mane of hair, slouching socks and droopy ties spelled exponented sprezzatura. All of this was wiped clean by Jackie’s keen eye and political image forging. Button-down shirts and postureless clothes disappeared, two-button suits and clean pointed collars appeared. JFK chose to change not because it was easy, but because it was hard, and that goal served to organize and measure the best of his energies and skills.
