Originally a geography graduate, she joined Northampton’s Central Museum in 1950 and delved deep into shoes for 38 years. She hasn’t rested on her laurels much after retiring as museums around the world have acknowledged her as one of the foremost experts on footwear. Museums regularly employ her to identify and date shoes in their collections. Apart from several publications on the history of shoemaking, Queen Elizabeth has awarded her an MBE in 1976 for her work at the Northampton Museum.

In the interview below, June Swann talks with The Independent about her passion, concealed shoes, shoemaking among Native Americans and Aboriginals, and tells us why shoes are the most personal choice in apparel.

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/you-are-what-you-wear-on-your-feet-for-june-swann-a-boot-is-a-clue-to-personality-as-well-as-social-history-paula-weideger-talked-to-her-1542212.html

In 1987, June Swann retired from her post as keeper of the shoe and boot collection at the Central Museum and …
keep reading

[8,37,14,26

post-4099","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-arbiter-elegantiae","category-links","category-northampton","category-reading
["GET
