An expert tailor, called on to judge the crown prince’s pants, ruled that they were indeed too large (was the title meant to suggest that the crown prince was getting too big for his britches?) This light treatment of the heir to the throne infuriated self-appointed defenders of the imperial house’s dignity. Decades later, far right commentators continued to cite this article as marking the onset of the decline of the imperial house’s dignity.’<\/p>\n
